Introduction:

PRL is an autonomous institution under the Department of Space and was established in 1947. The current areas of research at PRL are Astronomy and Astrophysics, Earth Sciences, Planetary Sciences & Exploration, Space and Atmospheric Sciences, Theoretical Physics, and Experimental Laser and Atomic Physics. We have two campuses at Ahmedabad and astronomical and solar observatories at Mt. Abu and Udaipur respectively.

Admission is through a written test and / or interview, which will be conducted at PRL.

Research scholars are awarded a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) for the first two years, and subsequently a Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) for the remaining years. A JRF receives a stipend of Rs. 12,000 per month and an SRF receives a stipend of Rs. 14,000 per month. A book grant of Rs. 7500 per year is given to all research scholars.

Eligibility:
M.Sc. in one of the following subjects: Physics, Space Sciences, Atmospheric Sciences,
Chemistry (Physical, Nuclear / Analytical), Geology, Geophysics and Ocean Sciences. A minimum of
60% marks at the Bachelor’s and Master’s level is required for all candidates. Those appearing for
Master’s Degree examination in 2010 may also apply.

Introduction:

This four-year, AHRC-funded research project at the University of Bristol, led by Professor Neville Morley, will explore the history of the reception of Thucydides and his work since the Renaissance, including the history of scholarship and criticism on the text, the changing interpretative frameworks and the use of Thucydides in modern debates about such subjects as citizenship and democracy, international relations and the nature of history. We are now seeking to recruit for two postgraduate studentships. One student will research an aspect of the modern reception of Thucydides as a historian and within the general field of historiography; the other will research an aspect of the modern reception of Thucydides within social and political theory or political philosophy. The exact topics will depend on interests and experience. Applicants must have completed a first degree and either be studying for or have completed a Masters degree in an appropriate subject area such as history, classics and ancient history, philosophy or politics

Eligibility:
Entry requirements vary depending on the programme, but the majority of taught programmes require an upper second-class Undergraduate (Bachelor’s) degree or equivalent. You may be required to have a degree in a relevant field for some programmes, whereas other programmes will accept applicants from many different (non-related) backgrounds.

Some programmes do have additional requirements, such as work experience or specific professional qualifications.
