The QEII National Trust is an independent statutory organisation that helps landowners to protect significant natural and cultural features on their land through open space covenants, and thus encourage and promote the provision, protection, preservation and enhancement of open space. As a result of a bequest to the QEII National Trust from Dr Athol Patterson, a bursary was set up in 2009 to support students at Massey University interested in sustainable farming practices. Dr Patterson was a doctor of tropical medicines and taught in various universities around the world before retiring to Waverley where he had two small dairy farms.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Wellington campus and promote its academic platforms, the Regional Chief Executive Wellington is establishing undergraduate and postgraduate awards sponsored by the Dominion Post. The undergraduate awards will be in business, communication and health. Six school leaver awards of $2000 will be granted for one year’s full-time study in the first year (i.e. 100 level) of a Bachelor degree programme on the Wellington campus in 2010 and annually thereafter, subject to continuation of the sponsorship.
