Fellowship Description:
The University of Agder invites applications for a full-time fixed-term appointment as PhD Research Fellow in Mechatronics for a period of three years at the Faculty of Engineering and Science. The purpose of the PhD position is research training leading to the successful completion of a doctoral degree. The position is currently located in Grimstad, Norway. The starting date in 2011 is negotiable.The PhD candidate will participate in the activities of the NORCOWE research centre (Norwegian Centre for Offshore Wind Energy), with a particular focus on marine operations. During installation and maintenance of offshore wind turbines, new systems are needed for compensation of wave-induced motion. UiA has recently purchased a new Stewart platform for motion compensation, and this equipment will form the basis for the experimental work in the esearch project. The goal of the PhD project is to design and test new concepts for motion compensation.

The following qualifications will be particularly emphasised:
* Strong academic skills in the following areas: modelling and simulation, hydraulics, electrical drives, control systems and instrumentation
* Experience with the SimulationX simulation software platform
* Theoretical and practical experience with motion compensation and Stewart platforms
