Scholarship Description:
Applications are invited from individuals currently enrolled in a PhD program in an Australian university who are researching Southeast Asia. Funding is available for students to conduct specific, defined tasks in the Netherlands related to their PhD. These tasks could include fieldwork, consulting an archive or library, engaging in language or disciplinary study, or consulting academic experts. PhD projects should address topics related to the humanities or social sciences. Funds will cover economy class return travel between Australia and the Netherlands plus a living allowance for a period of between one and six months. The research must occur within the term of the PhD enrolment, and take place in the period May, 2011 – June, 2012. Up to four Fellowships will be offered in this round.
Selection Criteria:
a.The intellectual quality of the proposal
b.The relevance of the proposed visit to the Netherlands to the applicant’s research project and how it will enhance the research project
Conditions Of Funding:
Acknowledgement of funding support from The Australia-Netherlands Research Collaboration must be included in all publications that result from the research activity trip.Payment of the funding support will be made as a reimbursement to the applicant’s home institution that incurs the initial costs. The institution is requested to issue a tax invoice to The Australian National University, attach copies of the original invoices/documentation or costs incurred, and send to The Australia-Netherlands Research Collaboration. Full details of these requirements will be sent to successful applicants.Recipients of these grants must provide The Australia-Netherlands Research Collaboration with a written fieldtrip report within 1 month of completion.Successful applicants are ineligible to apply for further ANRC Overseas Travel Fellowships.Notification date is expected to be by mid April 2011, following evaluation by a selection panel.
