Career Acceleration Fellowships 2010, UK

Career Acceleration Fellowships provide an opportunity to concentrate on research for the period of the award.

Introduction:
EPSRC offers Career Acceleration Fellowships annually to provide up to five years funding to outstanding researchers at an early stage of their career. The expectation is that fellows will have established an independent career of international standing by the end of the award.Career Acceleration Fellowships provide an opportunity to concentrate on research for the period of the award, as well as supporting the cost of associated research for the duration of the fellowship. Career Acceleration Fellowships enable fellows to pursue new research directions and build collaborations internationally, within and across disciplines. Fellows will also be expected to contribute to the uptake of research outputs for economic and social impact through appropriate knowledge exchange activities. The number of fellowships awarded will be determined by our next Delivery Plan at this stage we anticipate awarding up to 50 Fellowships across the Leadership Fellowships and Career Acceleration Fellowships schemes. The actual numbers of each type of fellowship awarded will also depend on the quality of the proposals received and the level of resources requested.Career Acceleration Fellowships are highly sought after awards, and as such the competition is intense. On average, each year 450 applications are received for approximately 25 career acceleration fellowship awards.Potential career acceleration fellows are expected to have a strong publication record (for their particular research area) and to be able to demonstrate independence from their current/previous supervisors
