The Morris K. Udall Foundation offers The Environmental Public Policy & Conflict Resolution Ph.D. Fellowships to Doctoral Candidates for the year 2010/11 in USA

The Udall Foundation awards two one-year fellowships of up to $24,000 to doctoral candidates whose research concerns U.S. environmental public policy and/or environmental conflict resolution and who are entering their final year of writing the dissertation. Dissertation Fellowships are intended to cover both academic and living expenses from July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011.


Eligibility:

Each applicant must:

  1. Have completed all Ph.D. coursework and passed all preliminary exams;
  2. Have approval for the dissertation research proposal by February 24, 2010;
  3. Be entering the final year of writing the dissertation;
  4. Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or U.S. national.
  5. Applicants must be enrolled at a U.S. institution of higher education; U.S. citizens attending universities outside the U.S. are not eligible;
  6. The primary focus of dissertation research should be U.S. environmental policy or environmental conflict resolution;
  7. It is the Foundation’s intent that work conducted during the fellowship year be done in the U.S.

Selection Process:

Fellows will be selected on the basis of:

  1. Commitment to national environmental public policy or environmental conflict resolution, as demonstrated through coursework, teaching experience, public and community service, field work, and career aspirations;
  2. Quality of the dissertation project: project design, feasibility, originality, and scholarly significance;
  3. Potential of applicant to make a significant contribution to the field;
  4. Scholarly excellence;
  5. The essay: quality of writing and critical analysis.
