Tufts Department Of Education Is looking For A Postdoctoral Fellowship To Work In The Mathematics Education 2010 In UK
Introduction:
Tufts Department of Education is looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow to work in the Poincaré Institute for Mathematics Education,a project led by Tufts University, in collaboration with TERC and nine school districts in New England beginning summer or fall of 2010 for one or more years. Funded by the National Science Foundation Math and Science Partnership Program, the Poincaré Institute seeks to transform and improve the teaching and learning of mathematics in middle school and the connections among the elementary, middle, and high school curricula. The Institute will
• Design and implement three graduate-level online courses for mathematics teachers in grades 5-9, focusing on the mathematics of functions and modeling. The highly interactive courses include both challenging mathematical content and pedagogical insights drawn from current research on mathematics learning and teaching.
• Support the creation of permanent school-based discussion forums where teachers plan, review and improve their lessons, drawing on the mathematical and pedagogical content of the courses and assisted by mentors from Tufts and TERC.
• Carry out research on the impact of the Institute on teachers’ knowledge and teaching methods as well as the learning of their students. Candidates should have a Doctoral degree and may have worked as a full-time researcher in a Postdoctoral training position for no more than three years. A strong knowledge of both mathematics and mathematics education and a demonstrated record of research experience in education are required. Prior experience as a K-12 mathematics teacher is desirable.

Fellowship Awards:
Competitive salary and benefits package in accordance to candidate’s experience, NSF guidelines, and Tufts University policy. The initial contract will be for one year renewable for two more. Expected starting date is September 1, 2010. No concurrent funding is allowed.
