The Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand invites applications for research scholarships which are intended to enable CSANZ Members to undertake a period of training in research under the full-time supervision of a nominated responsible investigator. Scholarships are awarded for research into cardiovascular disease and related disorders.
Eligbility:
- be a Member of the CSANZ;
- be a permanent resident in Australia or New Zealand;
- research to be carried out in either Australia or New Zealand;
- not previously been the recipient of the CSANZ Research Scholarship;
- enrolled full-time for a PhD (or equivalent research degree) based on the work of the scholarship.
Scholarship details:
- The value of the Scholarship will be equivalent to that of the NHF Postgraduate Medical or non-Medical Scholarship (depending on the candidate’s academic qualifications).
- Scholarships are awarded for a maximum of one year.
- CSANZ Research Scholarships are not to be used as a stipend.
- The CSANZ does not deduct taxation from quarterly instalments. If required, scholars should seek tax advice relevant to their own particular circumstances.
- It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure that their applications are complete and accurate. In particular, applicants must take care that their application includes all supporting documentation and original signatures.
How to apply:
- Applications may be submitted electronically via email. Send as a single file of no more than 3MB in PDF format. Electronic applications must include all attachments, original signatures of supervisors, department heads etc and reach the CSANZ secretariat by 5pm on the due date. Email to nfo@csanz.edu.au
- Applications which are late or do not adhere to the instructions/guidelines will not be considered.
- Research is neither planned nor supervised by the CSANZ.
Application and assessment process:
- Receipt of applications will be notified by email to the applicant.
- Applicants should list their qualifications and experience and the program of research proposed. There is only one stage to the assessment process for scholarships. The Scientific Committee of the CSANZ will read the applications and provide a score based on the criteria of academic record, research output, publications, research supervisor, referee reports and research plan.
- To avoid double funding, the CSANZ Secretariat will contact applicants to ascertain whether they have been awarded funding from another institution.
- Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application in December. Successful applicants are provided with administrative details relating to funding.
Scholarship deadline:
Applications close at 5 pm Friday 25 September 2009.
