PhD Scholarships Physicist (PhD Student) For Dosimetry Development In Proton Therapy At Netherlands In 2010
Job Description:
* Design of a calorimeter, encompassing the conducting of simulations, process modelling, read-out electronics and data-acquisition.
* Experimental study to characterise and to optimize the performance of the calorimeter, encompassing the study of the effects of dynamic dose application and spatial variations of a dose distribution.
* Study of the contributions of neutrons to the signal formation.
* Study of short and long term effects of material damage and chemical changes due to interactions of the radiation with calorimeter material.
* Assistance in the preparation and commissioning of the reference beam line at KVI.
* Publication and presentation of the results of the research in international scientific journals and conferences.
* Active participation in the research group at UMCG and KVI working in fields related to physics and technology for radiation therapy and especially proton therapy.
* Contribution to the supervision of MSc and BSc students doing their research in the group.
* Contribution to general (a.o. teaching) tasks at KVI and/or UMCG.
* Participation in the PhD-educational program of the FANTOM and Guide graduate schools.
What Do We Need:
* MSc degree in physics or a relevant other discipline.
* A clear interest in medical physics.
* Well-developed experimental skills; experience with large scale simulations is an advantage.
* Good communication skills (presenting your work, writing of scientific publications).
* Capability to work independently and used to take initiatives.
* Good team player in an environment of scientists and technicians from various disciplines.
* Flexible and prepared to work in shifts and outside normal office hours.
* Prepared to travel and stay for extended periods in the region of Delft.
The UMCG has a preventive Hepatitis B policy. This may mean that you must build up enough resistance to Hepatitis B before you can be appointed.
What Do We Offer:
The job is a temporary appointment for four years. The work will primarily be performed at KVI, Groningen, and partly at VSL, Delft. Your maximum gross salary will be €2.673 per month (scale PRO/3), based on full-time employment. The conditions of employment comply with the Collective Labour Agreement for Medical Centres (CAO-UMC).
