Organisational Environment
The Global Change Institute (GCI) has been established at the University of Queensland to address major global challenges. Our world is changing at an ever quickening pace through natural causes and human activity. A changing climate, an exponentially expanding human population and an ever growing demand for resources create challenges for the environment and in food production, energy, health and access to clean water on local, national and global scales. The University of Queensland has extensive expertise in all these areas. The GCI harnesses that expertise to find innovative solutions in a lti-disciplinary, integrated manner. A key part of the GCI’s role is to engage with government, industry and the community to promote research and discovery, to advocate the importance of coordinated and integrated approaches to finding solutions and to transfer knowledge and technologies to the public.Communication through all forms of media is a key part of this engagement. The GCI has been established on the University’s St Lucia campus and has (or will have) links to all Faculties, Institutes and Research Centres of the University as well as to an extensive network of national and international partners. Further information about the Institute and its staff may be found at www.gci.uq.edu.au.Australian Sea Level Rise University Project The Australian Sea Level Rise University Program (A-SLURP) has been established under the Australian Research Council (ARC) Super Science Fellowship scheme and will sit within the Global Change Institute at the University of Queensland. Super Science Fellowships are prestigious positioned funded by the ARC and aimed at outstanding early career researchers. The A-SLURP team includes distinguished researchers including two Federation Fellows as well as leading landscape and environmental planners, maritime lawyers, economists and industry analysts.
