Description:
1. This scholarship was established by his parents in memory of Graham Chalmers Allen who met with a fatal accident while he was still a student at the
Faculty of Veterinary Science.
2. The scholarship is established by a Trust Fund vested in the University and is awarded on the recommendation of the Executive of the Institute of Veterinary, Animal and Biomedical Sciences.
3. The income from this Trust shall be accumulated in a Graham Chalmers Allen Scholarship disbursement fund from which scholarship payments shall be made.
4. One scholarship of approximately $2,000 shall be offered annually but a lesser or greater amount may apply depending on the available income in any one year.
5. The purpose of the scholarship shall be to assist research related to horses.
6. Those eligible to apply shall be either graduates in Veterinary Science from Massey University, or undergraduates in Veterinary Science wishing to study for a B Phil degree at Massey University.
7. The holder will be expected to undertake postgraduate work for some postgraduate diploma or degree at Massey University, or study for the B Phil degree, or to undergo an approved course at an equine station or other research centre in New Zealand. In special cases a proposal by the applicant to travel and work in some overseas centre will be considered at the time of selection.
8. If in any year there are no suitable applicants for this scholarship a sum no greater than that of the Scholarship may be used to support research by a staff member of the Institute of Veterinary, Animal & Biomedical Sciences at Massey University provided that the research is related to horses.
9. Application forms are available from the Research & Postgraduate Studies Office, IVABS, and should be submitted to the Graduate Research School by due date. However, in special circumstances and when finance permits, consideration may be given to applications received other than by the normal closing date.
10. Payment of the emolument shall be in two instalments, one in February and July for postgraduate or B Phil students at Massey University or in one sum at the beginning of the tenure if the student is located elsewhere.
11. The scholarship may be held in conjunction with other awards.
12. If, for any reason, there are no applicants, or applicants are deemed unsuitable, the income shall be accumulated and according to the judgment of the University, either more scholarships or a scholarship of greater value shall be offered later.
13. If, for good reason, there shall be need to vary the terms of the Scholarship, this shall be done on the recommendation of the Executive of the Institute of Veterinary, Animal and Biomedical Sciences provided that the general intent of the scholarship shall be maintained and the University shall be the judge of this.

* Do not send original documents, certified copies are acceptable.
* Do not include additional information, ie CV unless specifically requested to do so. It will not assist your application.
* All pages should be A4 size, single sided, and stapled (with one staple only) in the top right hand corner. Do not put your application in a folder.
* Ensure your completed application arrives at the Graduate Research School, or other address given on the form, on or before the closing date. No undertaking is given to accept late or incomplete applications. An acknowledgement letter will be sent to you on receipt of your application.
