Scholarship Description:
The Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for a full-time University-funded PhD studentship for three years commencing in January 2011.
Traditionally, inancial literacy has been thought to influence individual financial behaviour. Recently, however the effectiveness of financial literacy has been called into question, with psychology offering more explanation about how people use such information. It has challenged assumptions of rational choice that underpins traditions economic theories. Behavioural economics, drawing on both economics and psychology, has emerged to provide better explanations of how individuals make decisions and suggesting alternative interventions which may be more effective in changing individuals’ financial behaviour.Drawing on this intellectual background, the successful PhD candidate will be required to prepare a thesis related to financial education and/or decision-making using tools and methods appropriate to their core training which may involve econometrics, experimentation, survey methods and/or qualitative methods.Last Date To Apply:28/10/2010
