SPIN Postdoc Research Programmes 2009/10-KNAW-Netherlands

The KNAW invites researchers from Indonesia and the Netherlands to submit proposals for the fifth and final round of the SPIN Postdoc Programme for the year 2009/10

Under the auspices of SPIN, KNAW launched a programme for post-doctoral research in Indonesia to stimulate young Indonesian PhDs to develop further as researchers and to improve the scientific environment in Indonesia.
The Scientific Programme Indonesia – Netherlands (SPIN) is a programme for bilateral scientific research cooperation between Indonesia and the Netherlands, which is managed by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) within the formal framework set by the governments of both countries (Memorandum of Understanding 2002). The programme has been running successfully since 2000.
The overall objective of the SPIN Postdoc Programme is to embed Indonesian postdocs in Indonesia’s science system by providing postdoc positions for outstanding Indonesian PhD-graduates based at Indonesian universities or research institutes.

Eligibility:

Applicants are the prospective supervisors in Indonesia and in the Netherlands: tenured senior researchers (holding a PhD degree) from universities or research institutions actively involved in joint research activities between Indonesia and the Netherlands.

How to Apply:

  1. Applications must be accompanied by the stated support of the applicants’ institutions:
  2. Endorsing the application;
  3. Guaranteeing basic facilities;
  4. Accepting financial consequences of additional costs that are not covered by the grant.
  5. The two applicants (from the Netherlands and Indonesia) should cooperate on the basis of equality in formulating the application and guiding the postdoc project. The proposed project should be relevant to the scientific aims and objectives of the institutions involved.
  6. An application should be signed by an Indonesian and a Netherlands senior scientist.
  7. Applications should be submitted electronically as well as by regular mail to the SPIN secretariat of the KNAW using the SPIN Postdoc Programme application form, which is available from the SPIN secretariat and from the Indonesia website of the KNAW (www.knaw.nl/indonesia).

  9. A signed hard copy posted by regular mail should be in the possession of the SPIN secretariat on Monday 26 October 2009 at the latest (this means that an extra few days of postal delivery time is allowed – please note that we still need the electronic version on 19 October 2009 at the latest!).
  10. Applicants will receive a written confirmation of receipt, which states whether the application has been formally accepted (and subsequently forwarded to referees) or refused.
  11. Within the application form all applicants are required to write down a short abstract/summary of the proposed research (max. 400 words).
  12. The abstract should be written in a clear and concise manner rendering the information accessible to non-experts as well as to experts in the field. Abstracts will be used in the selection procedure as well as for various PR purposes, such as posting on the KNAW website.
