Job Description:
These scholarships were established in 2010 to recognise and support top achieving international studentswho have gained University Entrance in New Zealand and who will commence an undergraduate degree programme at the University of Canterbury. The first awards will be made in 2011.
1. The scholarships shall be known as the UC International Student Scholarships.
2. The scholarships shall be awarded to students who intend to begin their first year of an undergraduate degree programme at the University of Canterbury, who have completed or are completing a university entrance qualification, and who attended school in the year of application or nomination.
3. Up to 10 scholarships will be available in any one year.
4. The scholarships shall be awarded to full-fee paying international students who have studied and gained University Entrance in New Zealand and who havelied to enrol at the University of Canterbury by 1 November in the year prior to their first year of enrolment.
5. Each scholarship shall normally be tenable for one year and must be taken up in the first year of university enrolment. This will normally be the year following the applicant’s finl year at school. A deferral by one year may be permitted provided that the scholarship is taken up in the first year of enrolment.
6. The scholarships shall be awarded based on the following criteria:
-Quality of achievement at NCEA level 2 or 3 or equivalent university entrance qualifications; plus
-Evidence of the applicant’s leadership potential; plus
-Involvement in cultural, sport and/or community activities. Read more

Introduction:
The Dennis William Moore Scholarship was established in 1999 as a result of a capital donation to the University of Canterbury from the Estate of Dennis William Moore, a Minister of Religion of Hari Hari and an Electrical Inspector. The capital donation was used to set up the Dennis William Moore Fund.The scholarship is tenable for a thesis student in astronomy who has been or will be undertaking observational work at Mt John as part of his/her thesis work. These scholarships are intended to recognise academic achievement, leadership potential, and involvement in sport, cultural and/or community activities amongst the top students entering the University of Canterbury.
Category A: All-Round Excellence Awards For academic achievement at NCEA Level 2 or equivalent university entrance qualification, leadership potential, and involvement in sport, cultural and/or community activities.(14 x up to $5,000)
Category B: All-Round Excellence Awards – Specified Schools
For students from: Aranui High School, Catholic Cathedral College, Hornby High School, Hillmorton High School, Kaiapoi High School, Linwood College and Mairehau High School. Assessed on academic merit and assessed need (financial or otherwise). School nomination, no application required.
