Scholarship Description:
A PhD research studentship is available in the Ocular Biomechanics Group at the School of Engineering in Liverpool. The position is for 36 months, to develop technology to enable measuring the biomechanical properties of the human cornea in vivo.You will be working in a highly active research group that operates across the disciplines of material characterisation, numerical simulation, experimental testing, 3D imaging and medical device development. Your work will benefit from our expertise in both basic and applied research and from our well-equipped biomechanics laboratory and numerical simulation facilities. Training, as required, will be provided in a well-equipped, well-funded and supportive environment enabling the successful candidate to extend skills and expertise.This position is suited for a candidate with a first or upper second class in civil or mechanical engineering. Candidates with a Masters degree are particularly encouraged to apply. The candidate must be able to work independently and develop expertise in new areas as required. The position is available from January 2011.
