Chinese Government Scholarship Is For Canadian Students 2010/2011 Master Degree/Doctoral Degree In China
Job Description:
The Chinese Government Scholarships (CGS) are made possible through an agreementbetween the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the British Columbia Ministries of Education and Advanced Education and Labour Market Development.The British Columbia Ministries are responsible for the recruitment of students and recommends candidates to the China Scholarship Council (CSC) who then evaluate and approve qualified candidates.Categories of Applicants and Duration of Scholarship:Undergraduates Master’s degree students Doctoral degree students Chinese language students General scholars Senior scholars All undergraduate studies will be conducted in the Chinese Language. Remedial Chinese language studies will be arranged for 1-2 years prior to major studies for students who do not have command of the Chinese language
Eligibility:
1.Applicants must be Canadian citizens, in good health, whose domicile or ordinary residence is in the Province of British Columbia.
2. Educational background and age limits are:
a.Category Age Limit Educational Background
b.Chinese Language studies Under the Age of 35 Completed senior high School.
c.Will pursue Chinese Language as a Major
d.Undergraduate studies Under the age of 25 Completed senior high school with good grades
e.Master’s degree Under the age of 35 Must have a bachelor’s degree
f.Doctoral degree Under the age of 40 Must have a Master’s degree
Value Of Scholarships:
Full and partial scholarships are available.
Full Scholarship:
A Chinese Government full scholarship covers tuition (or research) fees, basic learning materials, accommodation, a living allowance, emergency medical care, comprehensive medical insurance for international students under Chinese Government Scholarship, a once-only settlement subsidy and a once-only inter-city travel allowance. Students are responsible for their own international airfare costs
1. A monthly living allowance is paid to the students by the institution at the following rates (CNY Yuan per month):
• Undergraduates: CNY 1400 Yuan
• Chinese language students: CNY 1400 Yuan
• Master degree students, general scholars: CNY 1700 Yuan
• Doctoral degree students, senior scholars: CNY 2000 Yuan
2. Emergency medical care, which is the outpatient expense, generated in the institution’s hospital. Students may pay a certain percentage of the expense in accordance with the institution’s relevant regulations.
3. Comprehensive medical insurance provided by the Ministry of Education of China for the scholarship students against diseases and accidents. The institution may ask for compensation on the payment receipts from the insurance company for the expenses generated from hospitalizing for serious diseases or from accidental injury.
Application Materials:
1. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (attached), one original and one photocopy, in English.
2. Each applicant must enclose with their application, official transcripts of their postsecondary academic record in an envelope sealed by the institution providing them.Documents in languages other than English must be attached with translations in English.
3. Applicants for Chinese Language or undergraduate studies will need to provide a notarized (by public notarization agency or school authority) copy of senior high school transcripts.
4. A study or research plan written in English (no less than 200 words for undergraduates, no less than 400 words for scholars, no less than 500 words for postgraduates).
5. Applicants must enclose with their application, at least three letters of reference, in English, from persons who have taught the applicant (see attached letter of reference form.)
Basis Of Selection:
The Chinese Government Scholarship Committee will make its recommendations on the basis of academic achievement, demonstrated aptitudes, personal qualities, and character, as well as interest and participation in institutional and community affairs. Preference will be given to applicants who are proceeding to their first Baccalaureate,Masters or Doctoral degree.
