Miss Edith Wheal was a devoted teacher for fifty years in Wanganui, and this scholarship is part of a bequest made by her to Wanganui High School. It is a fitting tribute to Miss Wheal’s long years of service and concern for others that this scholarship is intended to promote similar dedication in others who have training, skills, and the will to employ their talents in the interest of other people.This scholarship is to the value of approximately $1,500 and may be awarded annually to an ex-student of Wanganui High School under one of two categories:
I.The Service Scholarship:
This takes precedence as the first purpose of the bequest. It is to assist a person to render voluntary service abroad for not less than 3 months, and preferably longer, in a country less developed than New Zealand or where there is a special need.
II.The Education Scholarship:
In the event of their being no suitable applicant for the Service Scholarship, the award may be made to an applicant who by reason of academic attainment, chosen goals, character and circumstances, stands to profit most from its bounty while studying for a University degree or diploma, or a course of tertiary studies leading to equivalent professional qualifications.For application forms please contact the Principal, Wanganui High School, P O Box 4022, Wanganui or phone 06-349-0178.Applications close 1 November by which date all applications with supporting documents must be in the hands of the Principal, Wanganui High School, PO Box 4022,Application Form:
* There are different forms for different awards. Please make sure you have the correct form. Most forms are available from Contact Centres, Massey University, Auckland, Palmerston North and Wellington, telephone 0800 MASSEY (0800 627739), email: Contact@massey.ac.nz.
* Please read the regulations carefully to ensure that you are eligible to apply for the particular scholarship or bursary.
* Complete the form in black pen, ensure you answer all sections correctly and that you have provided all the information requested, ie supporting statement, course proposal, birth certificate, etc.
* Do not send original documents, certified copies are acceptable.
* Do not include additional information, ie CV unless specifically requested to do so. It will not assist your application.
* All pages should be A4 size, single sided, and stapled (with one staple only) in the top right hand corner. Do not put your application in a folder.
* Ensure your completed application arrives at the Graduate Research School, or other address given on the form, on or before the closing date. No undertaking is given to accept late or incomplete applications. An acknowledgement letter will be sent to you on receipt of your application.
