Colby-Sawyer College acknowledges the unique talents and interests of our students through our merit awards. Students are eligible to apply for merit awards at any point, including prior to being accepted.

Instructions
1) Please complete the online Merit Award Application by February 1, 2011.
2) Submit an essay describing why you feel you deserve a merit award, in addition to any other required work samples. See award descriptions below for details.

Merit Award Options:
Leadership and Community Service Award: Past recipients have shown significant leadership through high school organizations and youth groups, as well as volunteering at local family shelters and food drives.In an essay, describe your experiences as a leader in your community and/or your experiences with community service. Your essay should be between 250 – 500 words in length.Art & Graphic Design: Please provide a brief statement describing your experiences in art. Your essay should be between 150 – 250 words in length. Please submit a portfolio containing at least 10 examples of your work.Art work should be mailed to the Admissions Office at the address listed below.Creative Writing: Please provide a brief statement describing your experiences in creative writing. Your essay should be between 150 – 250 words in length. Please submit a portfolio containing at least 3-5 examples of your work.Writing samples should be mailed to the Admissions Office at the address listed below.

Original Scholarly Research:
Please provide a brief statement describing your research topic and why you feel you deserve a scholarship. Your essay should be between 150 – 250 words in length. Please submit an example of your research, either printed or via powerpoint.Documents should be mailed to the Admissions Office at the address listed below.

Additional Information:
    * Deadline: Application must be returned by February 1, 2011.
    * Students may only apply for one Merit Award.
    * Early Action students are eligible and welcome to apply for these awards.
    * As a Division III college, Colby-Sawyer is not permitted to award any scholarship money based on athletic involvement. Therefore, athletic leadership (being a team captain, for example) can not be considered when reviewing a merit application.These awards range from $2,000-$4,000 and selection will be based on the student’s demonstrated skill or involvement in these designated areas. Faculty members are included in the evaluation process for these awards.Merit awards may supplement the previously listed academic scholarships and are renewable annually for four years of study dependent upon full-time enrollment and the student’s good academic standing.
