Fukunaga Scholarship Undergraduate Scholarship For High School Students In The State Of Hawaii At USA In 2011

The scholarships are awarded to encourage high school students in the State of Hawaii to pursue higher educationin Business at any accredited four-year college or university. Resident students already enrolled in college are alsoconsidered.

Amount And No Of Scholarships:
Four year scholarships are awarded to students just entering college in increments of $4,000 annually. Assumingeligibility is maintained, a total of $16,000 will be awarded over four years. Students already enrolled in college willreceive awards varying in amount and duration depending on individual circumstances. These awards will coveronly the remainder of the student’s originally approved undergraduate program. Approximately 45 students will beattending various colleges and universities on scholarships annually. We anticipate awarding approximately ten (10)new scholarships for the 2011-2012 school year.To maintain scholarship eligibility, the recipient must demonstrate academic progress towards his or her Businessdegree by successfully completing a full-time course load each year aid is received. The minimum grade pointverage (GPA) to qualify for continued aid is 3.0, except in special circumstances. Where a college does not offer aformal Business major, a reasonable set of available business or economics courses must be approved by thecommittee*. The scholarship will be discontinued if less than a full-time course load is taken, if a sufficient numberof Business or Economics courses is not carried, if the student changes his or her major or course of study, or if thestudent no longer attends a four-year accredited college or university.

Qualification:
A. In order to be eligible to apply for an award from the Fukunaga Scholarship Foundation, students who are graduates of public schools in Hawaii must earn the BOE Recognition Diploma with Honors (3.0 GPA or better)r, if graduating before 2013, be on track to have received it. Graduates of private schools in Hawaii must earnan equivalent number of credits and GPA as public school graduates.
B. The applicant must impress fellow students, members of the faculty and members of the community as anindividual deserving of an opportunity to begin or continue higher education and must have demonstratedpersonal attributes and the scholastic aptitude needed to achieve educational goals.
C. The applicant must have an interest in Business and have participated in school activities and communityservice which demonstrate leadership and responsibility.
* Any major other than those listed above requires approval of the selection committee.

D. The applicant’s class standing will be considered. A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 in hisor her high school career is highly desirable.
E. The applicant must show a desire and the ability to further his or her education as a means of attaining andsustaining a career within the Pacific Islands region.
F. The applicant must be a resident of the State of Hawaii and plan to eventually return to Hawaii or the PacificIslands region and contribute to its growth and welfare.
G. The applicant’s need for financial assistance will be considered based on financial resources available throughinancial Aid and through his or her family’s assets and income. All applicants must submit a Free Applicationfor Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Student Aid Report to be considered for this award.
H. Scholarships are awarded based on the scoring of financial need, academic achievement, leadership qualities,a desire to attend college, special circumstances, and personal interviews.
I. Scores allocated to each applicant will not be disclosed.

Application Details:
Application materials must be postmarked by March 1, 2011, to qualify for consideration by the ScholarshipSelection Committee. Application materials submitted in person, by email, or by facsimile transmission will not beaccepted. The following must be submitted by the postmark deadline:
• The four-page Application Form for the proper year (filled in completely and accurately), with an originalsignature on the last page.
• The student’s FAFSA Student Aid Report indicating the EFC (Expected Family Contribution).
• An official school transcript, including cumulative grade point average and class standing as of the end of thefirst semester of the 2010-2011 year. The school may submit the transcript directly to the Foundation. Forcollege students, an official high school transcript and a college transcript are required.
• College entrance test scores (preferably SAT), if available, or a signed statement explaining why the scores arenot available.
