WSU Scholarship For Cultural Contribution To The University Of Waikato 2010 In New Zealand
Job Description:
The WSU Scholarship for Cultural Contribution was established by Waikato Students’ Union to recognize outstanding cultural contribution to the University. The Scholarships will be awarded for outstanding cultural contribution to the University of Waikato (independent of academic performance), to assist with course fees and living costs.Application is open to undergraduate students enrolled at the University of Waikato.
Cultural input will be assessed on:
* Contributions of an ethnic nature or
* Artistic contributions, or
* Involvement in promoting and enhancing activities which add to the student experience on campus.Regulation:
1. The Scholarship will be known as the WSU Scholarship for Cultural Contribution to the University of Waikato.
2. The Scholarship will be awarded for outstanding cultural contribution to the University of Waikato (independent of academic performance).
3. Cultural input will be assessed on the following: Contributions of an ethnic nature or Artistic contributions, or Involvement in promoting and enhancing activities that adds to the student experience on campus.
4. The value of the Scholarship will be determined by the Selection Committee on a year-by-year basis, having regard to the funds available. The normal amount awarded will be $2,500 paid as a lump payment, to help with course and living costs.
5. The Scholarship is open to undergraduate students only.
6. The Scholarship is open to New Zealand citizens, permanent residents and international students who are current students at the University of Waikato for the year of tenure.
7. The Scholarship may not be held by current members of the WSU Executive, or employees of the WSU Executive who hold a fixed-term or continuing contract.
8. Together with their completed application form, applicants must submit a brief CV of no more than 4 A4 pages in length, which addresses the criteria in clause 3 above. Applicants must also submit two referees’ reports which support their cultural contributions to the University of Waikato.
9. The Scholarship will be awarded annually.
10. Students may receive the Scholarship on one occasion only.
11. On the recommendation of the Selection Panel the Scholarship may be shared.
12. Applicants agree that if they are awarded the Scholarship, they must consent to publicity regarding the Scholarship in Nexus Magazine and agree to attend a presentation ceremony to collect their award.
13. The Scholarship is awarded by the WSU on the recommendations of the Selection Panel which includes: The President of the Waikato Students’ Union Two executive members of the Waikato Students’ Union A representative of the Scholarships Committee.
15. The WSU may terminate a Scholarship at any time and recoup funds disbursed if it is satisfied that the holder is not following the required programme or is otherwise not complying with the conditions governing the Scholarship. The holder of a scholarship will have the right to appeal to the WSU Executive against any decision to terminate the scholarship.
16. Any exception or variation to these arrangements must be approved by the Selection Committee.
17. Applications must be received by the Scholarships Office by 30 September 2010

1. If I am offered a Scholarship, and accept the offer of the Scholarship, I will only be eligible to be formally awarded the Scholarship if I will be enrolled at The University of Waikato in the year of tenure and complying with any other specific requirements of the scholarship/s for which I have applied.
2. The Scholarships Committee may terminate a Scholarship at any time and recoup any funds awarded, if it is satisfied that the holder is not following the required programme or is not otherwise complying with the conditions governing the Scholarship. The holder of a Scholarship shall have the right to appeal to the Academic Board against any decision to terminate the award.

The information requested in the attached application form will be used solely for the purposes of assessing your application for the Scholarship for which you are applying. Personal information contained in this application will be copied and made available to members of the Selection Committee, members of the Scholarships Committee and staff of the Scholarships Office.The University of Waikato undertakes to store your application in a secure place in the event that you are successful in gaining an award or are selected as a reserve candidate for an award. The University of Waikato undertakes to destroy your application to preserve its confidentiality, in the event that you are unsuccessful in gaining an award. Should you have reason to believe that information held about you in either your application or your academic record is incorrect, you have the right of access to, and correction of, that information. Personal references from the persons you have named are obtained on the strict understanding that they are confidential, and you may not have access to those references without the written authorisation of the author.
